Pro - Does anyone else's nest boxes get soaked in rain?

The other week I was telling LMW about a cakey thingy that I used to eat in France many years ago ( I might add I was in my teens so it was a very long time ago!). The only problem is I can't for the life of me remember what it was called and hence can't find the recipe on the 'net.

 

What I can remember about it is..........it contained yeast and vanilla sugar , when it was cooked it was a large, round, flatish and had some kind of yellow goo on the top ( in the middle). It was cooked in a huge flan dish.

 

Knowing that Omleteers are a font of all knowledge hopefully someone will know what this cake is called and then I can find a recipe.I do have a French cook book but it's not in my book.

Clafouti? Often has cherries added.

It didn't have any fruit in it. My penfriends Mum always gave us a bowl full of home made mousse with it. Maybe it was something peculiar to that region of France ( they lived near Besancon - near the Swiss border)

All I can find tart wise from that region is this but it doesn't have yeast, so I don't think it can be. I am quite intrigued though

They call it a pudding on bread dough, which might explain the yeast ingredient? I'm having trouble finding a recipe for it though... hmmm. I'm intriguied to know what this is...

I have foundthis but it doesn't have a pastry case, its more like a rice pudding mixed with a custard cream and then poured into a flan case and baked.

After much searching on the internet, I think it's a yeast coffee cake ( it doesn't actually have coffee in it!) but I think my penfriends Mum must have had her own recipe as I never saw her refer to a piece of paper or book.

with added vanilla sugar then with a bit of eggy custard stuff ( a bit like the yellow goo in the middle of a danish pastry).

That's interesting- let us know how it turns out. The eggy stuff would be Creme patissiere I should think. Yum!
