Hi all

We lost one of our first ever chickens to a fox this week (RIP Daisy). We are temporarily living with my parents out in the country and got complacent about letting them FR (actually I think if my husband hadn't let them out at 6am we would have been fine but let's not go there...). Anyway, Poppy and Holly now need to be kept in out of the way of Naughty Mr Fox and we're thinking of getting a run extension for our Eglu Go. However, when we go back home and move the chickens back to the only place the Eglu will go (basically in an old flowerbed), there will be a little weeping cherry tree in the way. Rather than cut down the tree which we love, I wondered whether we could cut a hole in the appropriate run panel to fit it round the tree trunk. Has anyone got any experience cutting the Eglu run which they might like to share?

Thanks!

Victoria

Sorry to hear about Daisy :( .

Some people have made an extra door in an Omlet run. There are probably a few threads about it but here's one I found after a quick search.

The only thing that would worry me is that you are only living there temporarily and presumably will take your Go and run with you when you leave? You'd have to make the hole for the tree in such a way that you could put it back together again when you move. I'd do it as though I was making a door or hatch, so it could be useful for access when the tree isn't an issue any more.

That's helpful, thank you. I hadn't thought about coating the cut edges with Plastikote so that's a really useful tip.

On the cutting the hole and then moving the run point, I think my original post was confusing, sorry! If we buy the run extension then it only needs to be cut once we move back home. My parents' garden is huge so plenty of room for an extra 1m. Ours is decidely less huge (if not teeny) and the Eglu with its standard run only just fits in the flowerbed (we have a v small artifical lawn!) and then it is right up against the trunk of the tree so we have the door in one of the side panels. So for now, we won't need to cut it, I just wanted to make sure that we would be able to once we get home. Although foxes are less of an issue at home because we're not adjoining fox friendly farmland!

Thanks again.
