Feeling fed up with Ebay

Recommended Posts

This is an ongoing saga so bear with me. Two weeks ago I purchased 6 seat cushions on Ebay which quoted 3-5 days for delivery. I paid for them immediately and waited for them to arrive, and waited................ After waiting well over a week I contacted the sellers who messaged me back with a partly vague answer saying they thought they had been despatched but not sure. I waited another few days then decided enough was enough. I opened a dispute and immediately they gave me a full refund. I was so disappointed cos i really wanted these cushion and had told them I didnt mind waiting I just wanted a straight answer. Anyway - that was that. The same weekend I decided to sell two items I no longer required. The first was two matching pairs of curtains and the second was a canvas wardrobe. On both items i put collection only. Both items sold. The curtain buyer messaged me to say he was in Cornwall and would send a courier to collect. He wanted to pay by Paypal I wasnt happy but said ok. The next day I messaged him to give my phone number and asked him to let me know when the courier was going to collect. After that I heard no more. After 4 days of not hearing I assumed he didnt want them so opened a dispute for non payment. Straight away i got an abusive message basically saying I could keep my curtains. I apologised and said that I had replied straight away to his messages and not heard back. I opened the dispute so that i could reclaim my selling fees. Since then I have had a couple of abusive messages from him.

The other item - the wardrobe - again I heard nothing for 3 days. I messaged the buyer then she answered saying she had been away and could she collect it on Tuesday evening (yesterday) I messaged back and gave her the address and phone number. She never turned up. I feel so disappointed as I have never had these problems before then suddenly 3 at once. I feel as if it is something I am not doing right or something - but i checked and all the messages i sent appeared as SENT so i don't think it an be that. Sorry for the rant.

I feel your pain :( I have just received neutral feedback from someone for no reason. They just state 'thanks' I am fed up with it too. Taking away the ability to leave feedback as a seller ruined the whole eBay selling experience for me. It just means that buyers can be as awful as they like.

I recently had to ask the advice from fellow Omleteers about an item (only my 3rd) that I sold on Ebay. Someone put in a last minute bid & didn't pay for it. Eventually after the 4th (!) auction it sold, for £200 under. I don't think I'll subject myself to the medium again, it's too stressful :(

eBay is what it is I am afraid,& as a veteran of over 2600 transactions,I know that there are far more honest people using the site than there are idiots, but the idiots are there too

What I would say is that you should give people a week to pay before opening a dispute, even if they have not got back to you.

You can always phone them in the meantime (often just the act of requesting their phone number from eBay is enough to spur them into paying,as they get a notification of it too)

If an item is collection in person only then put in BIG RED LETTERS 'No courier collections' & should you get someone thick or cheeky enough to ignore this cancel their win & offer it immediately to the next highest bidder.

The cancelling of the transaction should be enough to prevent them from leaving feedback, but if they do then you can appeal to eBay to have it removed - I have just this week done that myself, successfully.

As for the abusive emails.....you should 100% report his abuse to eBay. Hopefully they were sent via their messaging system? They take abuse very seriously & this chap will get his wrists slapped if it is his first time of doing this.

You are in the right not to sell to him as he is not collecting IN PERSON,is he? (although you did start non paying bidder proceedings a little earlier than I would have) & eBay will take a very dim view on his abuse.

Good luck,& don't give up on what has been an unhappy & unlucky experience on a good, fun place to trade :D

I feel for you - I'm relatively new to Ebay and apart from one non-paying bidder, have had no problems until a few weeks ago, I sold an item (for the princely sum of £1.04!), having said UK postage only, the buyer then contacted me to ask if I would post it to Germany for £x extra. I said yes, but it would be at his risk. i then waited and waited for payment. I messaged him a couple of times and heard nothing. After nearly two weeks I threatened to open a case and he then immediately paid up - but only for the item itself, not for the postage. So I waited and waited and messaged and eventually he coughed up the postage - meanwhile, the postage rates had been hiked up here, so in the end, I had to pay an extra 70p for the postage which is a big dent in £1.04! I looked at his feedback - one or two people have mentioned "confusion over payment/postage" and one apologises for having opened a case against him (on Ebay's advice) so I know it's not just me who has had problems. He hasn't bothered to leave feedback and I'm not sure what to do about leaving feedback for him. I can only leave him "positive" but the comments of other sellers who have left him feedback did make me feel a bit better about the whole thing so would really like to do the same, think I'll leave it til the item is about to be removed from those he can leave feedback for, then at least he can't leave me negative!

Needless to say, I have blocked this chap as a seller!
