i went to open my chickens up this morning and my faverolle ran out but then suddenly fell to the floor after about two steps. it seems to be her right leg that is the problem. she has to sit on the floor all the time. when she tries to standup she flaps her wings frantically and pulls herself along. also her tail is down.

 

what do you think has happened?

what should i do?

Is she in pain?

What is hurting her?

I should examine her carefully to see if there is any sign of a break. She may have just sprained it. Put her in a cat carrier or box, so that she doesn't try to run about and aggravate it. If there is any sign of injury, I'd get her to the vet.

 

Sometimes they go off their legs because of a problem inside the abdomen, such as a stuck egg which is pressing on a nerve.

I wouldn't even hesitate, if she can't stand I'd have her straight down the Vets. I do hope she's alright and makes a speedy recovery.

I agree, could be any number of things, and unless you're experienced and feel competent I'd get her to the vet pronto.

yes she is fine now thank you. she was fine after about 6 hours. she is now walking on it perfectly fine. might have just been a dead leg! thanks anyway. sorry i couldn't reply quicker my computer broke, sorry
