Nematodes for slugs - has anyone used them?

Recommended Posts

Hi All, the title says it all really ... just wondering what experience you have had with using Nematodes against slugs and snails (my veg seedlings have virtually all disappeared over night :( ) Do the nematodes work, any particular brand that's best (nemaslug seems to be the main one) - or any better suggestions?

Thanks all!

We used them for the first couple of years on our allotment, Nemaslug. I do think they work, but it turns out quite pricey and you use a lot of water. We haven't used them for the last couple of years, but grow most things in pots first then plant out. I sometimes also use wildlife friendly organic slug pellets for particular sensitive new plantings. Maybe try them for a year and see what you think. Maybe using them for a couple of years reduces the population enough? Oh, and we do enjoy a night time slug hunt

I've used them previously but wasn't convinced I made much impression on our healthy the slug population. However, this year I used them in raised beds for the first time - seems to have been much more successful - lots of happy looking lettuces, very few nibbled bits, and no sign of horrible, slimy things lurking in the salad :D They are quite pricey but I'm about to order my second batch which I hope will carry me through until the end of summer.
