JS1
Hm, I don't want to sound like Jamie Oliver but I'd say I put a glug in! For a half-filled Omlet Glug, or a full plastic drinker, I'd use about as much as I'd put milk in tea, if that helps.
The Dogmother
You don't need to be scientific about it, just a squish is fine. It helps to decant it into an old (clean) sauce or washing-up liquid bottle.
amys garden
Thanks for your answers That makes sense and would that splash be every day/for a few days or just once a month? Sorry for the questions
The Dogmother
There's a recommendation of something like 3 days in 7 but I just do it when I remember.
Redwing
Officially I believe its 20ml per litre, I think thats too strong personally and put something like 5-10ml in
kissinuk
I always seen cider vinegar as a bit of an "old wives tale"', but saying that I have tried it in the past.... However, don't add more than 4 teaspoons into a glug as it will put them off drinking (in my experience anyway).
The Dogmother
My 'squish' probably only amounts to the same as Tasha. kissinuk, it's an old general conditioner but serves a very good purpose in keeping the crop and gut slightly acidic and avoiding digestive problems. It also contains natural probiotics in the 'mother thread' it contains, much like live yoghurt.
JS1
My 'squish' probably only amounts to the same as Tasha. And my 'glug' - or maybe a 'dollop'.
amys garden
Well I put a "splash" in the girls drinker this morning and I don't know if it's that or the cooler weather but this evening they had lovely red faces combs and wattles again So they'll deffinately be having apple cider vinegar again . WitchHazel
Definitely don't overdo it. Start with a teaspoon in a Glug-ful of water. It;s not particularly a pick me up. It just makes their tummies a bit more acidic and so more hostile to the less friendly bacteria that try and inhabit the gut. For humans, drinking a tablespoon about 15 mins before meals helps get the digestive juices going in the stomach, making them better able to digest food. Recommended to me by a colonic irrigation specialist.
The Dogmother
I've heard that too Hazel, plus if you mix some in water then use it to rinse your hair, I am told that it will make it really shiny.

That's interesting. Do you think it would work ok on coloured hair? I;m afraid of it turning my hair green.
The Dogmother
I haven't tried it on mine but I don't see why it wouldn't be OK. Perhaps try it with a wee bit of ACV first. I think the idea is that it helps keep the scalp healthy.
WitchHazel
OK, I might give that a go. Maybe on a small area first. Or a strip so that if it does go horribly wrong, I can pretend it was deliberate. Sorry to have hijacked the thread.
amys garden
That's ok! Makes me smile I remember when there was a celebrity craze for washing hair with wee I've only put a splash in the girls huge drinker so I dour I've over dosed them It was prob the heat that was making them lack lustre Though today we went to a NGS garden were they had two huge averies for chickens BUT all they had was one roos and bare soil poor girls! They looked really scraggy so my girls look really healthy by comparison!
