Clucking_Mad
My hen Phyllis is poorly a few weeks ago she was passing soft eggs and I manage to sort that out with help from the forum and she has been fine since then and laying eggs again as normal. As of this morningand all she wants to do is sleep and he tail is down and she is puffed up and her back is hunched up. I have checked her vent and it is completely clean she is not walking round much either. I thought she might be egg bound but am not sure so I have given her a warm bath and some castor oil. She poop a little bit after the warm bath and then perked up a little and started to groom herself and her tail was up even though she was still puffed out. I took her back outside to the WIR and she did a huge amount of runny poo which seem to come flying out. Since then she has been one minute quite perky and tail up but still not 100% and then changing to how she was this morning. I have also given her some nutridrops. I have also noticed that her poo is still runny and is now quite green, i'm not sure if the castor oil is making her poo green? She hasn't laid an egg today at the moment not even a soft egg Does anyone have any ideas what is wrong? I have taken some pics of her so you can see what I mean. Tweety
How old is she? In view of the recent history, and her present condition, I would take her to the vet.
Egghead68
I would take her to the vet too. Good luck.
Egluntyne
She looks ill. I'd take her to the vet, too. I'd also isolate her from the others in case they turn on her.
Clucking_Mad
Thank you for all your comments last night she passed a shelless egg and then went to bed when I checked on her this morning it was like nothing had happened and she is very lively and looks nothing like she did yesterday. I have only been having this problem with Phyllis laying soft eggs since I have changed the feed they were on so I have now brought some of the feed that I used to buy and I have nutrobal which I will give to her and give her a few days and see how she goes but I will take her to the vets if she looks like she did yesterday again. Phyllis is roughly a year old and the other two girls were very good with her yesterday they both kept on standing either side of her and snugling up to her as she is top bird and the other two worship the ground she walks on. Thank you all for your advice and help Laura x
Tweety
Glad to hear that she is better this morning. It sounds as if the food may have something to do with it - i had a lot of soft egg problems with my girls when i was feeding them Ex Batt layers, and a change of food to Garvo really made a difference - so I hope that the change of diet will cure the problem for Phyllis too.
