OH has come home from work with a box of about 50 live Oysters as they do apart from the obvious open and swallow whole which I just had to try I am hoping that you wise ones will be able to suggest a recipes or recipes there is no way I can eat 50 by myself OH didn't like the look of them raw and I can't see DD's trying them either

I like them raw best, the French often slosh a little gentle vinaigrette made with shallot into it as well. I've had them hot with a breadcumb/parsley/chopped onion topping and also hot with a splosh of calvados and cheese and possibly cream Well it was Normandy

I've never eaten an oyster but Him Indoors reckons they taste like giant bogies.

begs the question how does he know what a bogie tastes like

The only taste I got was sea water

I have to say all things that look like that or have tentacles do not appeal to me . I do like scallops though, without all their gubbins

If only you lived closer you would be very welcome and could take some home too I just don't want them to go to waste as that would be a shame

Raw,they make me heave

 

But lightly grilled with a sprinkle of parmesan,a touch of chilli & maybe a drop of white wine,they are heaven.

 

Try looking on the BBC good food site for more recipes - I do believe they also go well in a steak pie?

As suggested by Cinnamon the BBC website has loads of recipies I think everyone here will be sick of the sight of them If anyone lives close enough to me to want some please please PM me I hate the Idea of waste

Perhaps it would be easier to start your own Oyster farm!! Perhaps you'll find a few pearls?

 

I personally couldn't stomach them. Although I like cockles , mussels in garlic & scallops with the nasty bits removed.
