Having resisted for 18 months, I have caved in! A new (orange eglu) will be arriving shortly to join my existing !gogreen! and I will hopefully be out next weekend to choose two new girls to join the existing gang. It was a tough decision as to what to get next - I ended up wanting one of everything but the family have settled on Orpington's. I have read all the hints and tips on the site for introductions and plan to take it nice and slowly and hopefully all 5 will be able to live in peace and harmony eventually.

Very exciting which family don't understand ( :eh: ) but I know you will :D

Oh, are they that big?? Would bantams cope OK with my other 3 during intro's? I have a bluebelle, a speckledy and a light sussex. They generally FR in their own area during the day but of course the newbies would be stuck in their run for a few weeks depending on how the intro's go. I hadn't released Orpingtons would be that large? Maybe I should think again??

Orpington bantams are fairly chunky, so given time and easy introductions they should be fine with your hybrids.

My flock is a mixed flock, I have bantams, LF pure breeds, hybrids and ex batts all living in harmony. People have said that you can't have Silkies and hybrids together.... My Silkies and hybrids are great together.... But I have managed introductions slowly and carefully.

But it this way, I have 2 WIRs, and 4 Wyandotte bantams.

2 of the Wyandotte bantams live in one run with most of my large girls.

The other 2 live in a WIR with my Silkies and a hybrid.

I don't dictate which run they live in, they choose their own, and sometimes they have "Sleepovers" in another run

I find that most girls can learn to live in harmony, but sometimes there are personality clashes.... But if they have enough room there is generally no problem.

Follow the Introduction tips on here and you won't go far wrong :D I must have done about 10 sets of intros now easily, and I follow the rules on here every time :P

Got my new girls yesterday - yay :D. Having started this with thoughts of two Orpingtons I have ended up at the opposite end of the spectrum in a way with 4 bantams! A Wyandotte and pekins. I couldn't resist when I saw them. They seem to be happy enough this morning but it's different story for my existing girls! I have put the babies in their own eglu and run and that is inside the enclosure with the big girls. So no chance of contact but they can all see each other. And the big girls are not happy! They wouldn't go to bed last night and this morning they have been yelling since about 6am. They only quieten down when I go and have a chat with them.

I guess it's just part of the settling in process but I didn't really expect this noise - thought the trouble would start once they were all out together! Hopefully, they will get more used to the idea of this new coop and occupants on their patch during to day.

Will try to do some photos later today :D

When I introduced 2 new girls one of my remaining girls made such a racket all day for a week or so ,pacing up and down and getting most upset. ..so much so that I had to go around to a neighbour and say sorry.

The one making the most racket was Poppy who was bottom of the pecking order I believe she was stating her case and did not want to be bottom chick any more..It worked she isn't

Is the one making most of your noise bottom chick?

Thanks Jackian. So I have at least a week of this??!!! Hmmm!

All three have made a fuss at some point - sometimes all together! There doesn't seem to be an obvious ring leader. At the moment, they are quiet and so I will spoil them today with treats and attention and hopefully they will get used to seeing the newcomers in their patch and calm down :)
