williamspencer98
Prudence died last Thursday and now Lou Lou (Louby) has gone and met her in heaven. She was a poppet! Had such a lovely, friendly face! We had Prudence 2 months, and Louby 2 weeks. They both died within the space of 3 days. I honestly don't know what it is. The chicken farm owner that I bought them from doesn't either. He said it could be a common cold, it could of been stress. Prudence was showing gapeworm symptoms but they worm all their chickens with Flubenvet and they said to worm every six months, we hadn't had them long enough to have to worm them anyway. We did notice however Louby woke up with a cough... Could this of been it? I feel so bad, I don't know if it's me!!! I hope the others don't die Ive got: in the main coop - Mildred - buff Orpington Wilhelmina - partridge welsummer Connie- splash cochin Aggie - Light Sussex Trudee - Buff Sussex In the 'posh bird' coop - Pandora, our beloved Black silkie Beaux, the Grey silkie Poppet, a most beautifully soft Buff Pekin
Mrs_B
I can't offer any advice as I am very new to chicken keeping. I hope someone is able to help in that area. I just wanted to say sorry to hear about another girl passing away I'm experiencing a poorly hen as of yesterday after having chickens for just over a week and sometimes you feel so helpless because you want to make everything right. You sound like you know what you're doing so it isn't anything you could have done. Keep strong and good luck x
jackian
I really can't offer any advice .I have had my girls for over a year and lost one after a few months ..Since then the others have been fine. I think it is just unluck of the draw . I am sorry about you losing your 2 girls but from what you say they did not suffer and that is the most important thing. Jennifer Jane
So sorry to hear about your girls. We went through a bad patch last year, losing two in a short space of time. We lost Hilda with a cold recently, separated her from the others on the vets advice and, fingers crossed, the rest are fine. So i would just say keep an eye on the others, which I'm sure you are doing already.
sparkysmum
[quote="williamspencer98". Prudence was showing gapeworm symptoms Just a quick thought, chickens pant when they're stressed which could look like gape. Maybe stress is a possibility.?? Certain it isn't something you're doing though. Alli
