Sheilaz
Oh Emma, sorry to hear about Fred. That must have been a shock, and very sad for you & your son. Although the advice is not to let guinea pigs be lonely, I don't think your remaining male would appreciate a rival. Sometimes there is no choice but to end up with only one. Our last guinea pig, having had several spanning 20 years, died of old age this winter. But she had been happy on her own for a couple of years once companions were gone. The main thing then is to compensate with plenty of human contact, then he won't feel alone. Our lone guinea became very tame & lived a life of luxury. You probably know as much about housing as I do. Best wishes, and R.I.P. Fred.

foreveryoung
Poor Fred , Great choice of name though my 5 year old lil boy picked it lol i wanted to call them iggles and piggles as it sounded daft lol but hay they were his pets! ive just won a plastic rat cage on ebay for £15.50 inc p&p that should be suitable for toby to move indoors with us for company (poor lil mite ) it looks big enough and as he really isnt much bigger i thought it would be suitable plus safe from the cat! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260134210456&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSA:UK:
SarahCavy
I am sure your older boar would love a friend (a young baby would be fine) but if you really don't want any more Guineas then human companionship will be at the top of the list. Sorry to hear about Fred.
Sheilaz
I am sure your older boar would love a friend (a young baby would be fine) ....... Thanks Sarah, I didn't know that, not having done it, & wouldn't wish to give wrong advice. When I brought Boo Boo indoors I made an area so she could have exercise daily. I wouldn't like a young guinea to live solely in a cage, I think they need room to run about.

Sheilaz
:)No pics I'm afraid, we took loads in the garden but none in the house. One time I used her outdoor run set up in the conservatory, just wood & chickenwire, too high for her to jump out. Her bed was just various thin cardboard boxes, the sort Coke, beer etc comes in, or anything the right size. If necessary I tore out a doorway, put her bedding in, then when it was too tatty used another one. But, that took up a lot of space. One year I had an indoor home for a Christmas present. I still needed to use a box for her bed, but it was a plastic base with a cage type lid, about 76 x 46 cm. Not huge, but OK for her & fitted in the house better! It was from a pet shop. Hope this gives you some idea, Emma.

BooBoo
Sorry about your g-pig loss - RIP Fred. My g-pigs come indoors every night and all the time in the winter - I would recommend indoor g-pigs you are going to just keep one on its own. I made my indoor cage/ run and keep it in the utility room - its much cheaper and has enabled me to keep them in quite a big cage, rather than paying £££ for half the space from a pet shop cage. I made it from two ikea underbed storage boxes. Discard the box lids and you are left with two shallow trays (about 25 cm deep) - I cut one side off each square box to join them together to make a large rectangle. Then just made a chicken wire frame to sit in the tray to stop them escaping. Very easy to clean out too and stops them kicking sawdust everywhere. Hope this helps. Sheilaz
This looks like quite an old thread that has been resurrected. You're right. I saw it yesterday & couldn't decide how to respond. Left it to you. Pelicano.
pelicano
I didn't want to sound insensitive, but it is most definitely not something that has just happened.
