Today is a sad day, as Dora the last of our first hens died. She has been great recently, but looked unwell this morning, then had died when we got home. She was always the mother hen of them all and our two recent additions are looking lost without her. She was an ex batt, who we rescued in 2010, so she has had a long and happy retirement. Ah, very sorry to hear that. They are so special, ex batts. She was one of the lucky ones to taste sweet freedom. My last one was pts a few weeks ago. Well done for giving her 2 lovely years!

So sorry to hear your news.....what a lovely retirement you have given her.

It is always sad to lose one, particularly one of your first. I started with ex-batts and had Red for nearly four years, it was so sad when she died.

I had to have the last of my first lot of ex-batts pts last week - I came out of the vets and cried for ages. Its amazing how attached we get to the little manky chooks. Thinking of you.
