Couldn't find a suitable forum for tech issues so have posted it here (sorry if that's wrong!)

 

I was rummaging through old posts and came across this warning :

 

"club.omlet.co.uk contains content from www.sitevip.net, a site known to distribute malware. Your computer might catch a virus if you visit this site.

Google has found malicious software may be installed onto your computer if you proceed. If you've visited this site in the past or you trust this site, it's possible that it has just recently been compromised by a hacker. You should not proceed, and perhaps try again tomorrow or go somewhere else.

We have already notified www.sitevip.net that we found malware on the site. For more about the problems found on www.sitevip.net, visit the Google Safe Browsing diagnostic page"

 

Is there someone I should report this to?

I've never seen that before . What date was the post made?

 

I'm sure there's nothing to worry about. I've been using this forum for years and have never picked up anything untoward (apart from a tendency to buy everything recommended by other forum users ).

That seems to be about chicken vision - is that the one you meant? I can't see anything resembling what you've quoted.

I get a big red screen with 'something's not right here' headline and the quoted bit above

(am using chrome browser..)

 

aha! it doesn't happen in IE or firefox.

 

I guess that either means Chrome is bugged/over cautious or IE and (or an out of date version of) firefox aren't blocking bad stuff.

 

The only virus I ever got on my computer in many years of being on the internet all day every day was through a normal, infected, website visited in IE - hence switching to chrome.

 

It might be good if a tech-y behind the scenes person could have a look?

I just got the Big Red Box warning too in Chrome but in IE no warning and the web page came up ok. I Think Chrome is being over cautious.

Had a quick nosy around security sites and came up with this.

Malicious software includes 100 trojan(s), 40 exploit(s), 5 adware(s). Successful infection resulted in an average of 18 new process(es) on the target machine.

 

Only about a month ago when last tested. That will be why Chrome is flagging it as dangerous.

Spoke to a friend who is website uber-expert. He says I'm an idiot for looking at the page in IE when chrome told me not to

His verdict: Chrome and IE use different malware detectors; Chrome will be correct that there is a

problem

I'll refer it on.

Thats because there is an image linked to sitevip.net (do not visit this site!) since this website has malware on it, any website linking to it will also be flagged.
