Geoid
Was just making some chocolate brownies , and I was melting the chocolate in a smaller saucepan over a slightly bigger one (is that a double boiler? Im not sure.) The saucepans were both pyrex and clear. The chocolate had just finished melting, so I turned off the gas, and then there was a massive crack as the larger saucepan exploded into a thousand pieces, sending pyrex all over the kitchen. My mum has been using these saucepans for years, and since I value my life, where can I get some new ones?
Purplemaniacs
Oh no. You were lucky you were not hurt, I assume you weren't as you did not mention it. Had the saucepan boiled dry? Not sure where you can buy a replacement from, have had a quick look at John Lewis and Lakeland but they don't seem to have saucepans. Good luck Chrissie
angeluk69
Have a look here, it's the American eBay but at a glance this may be what you're looking for http://www.ebay.com/sch/sis.html?_kw=VINTAGE+SET+2+CLEAR+BLUE+PYREX+FLAMEWARE+PAN+POT+BOWL
merlina
I had to look this up as I was sure that Pyrex shouldn't be used on direct heat - I was wrong! What you're looking for is 'Pyrex flameware' which doesn't appear to have been sold in this country (I could be wrong), but was very popular in the USA in the 1960s and 70s. You can pick up occasional bits on ebay/ 2nd hand shops in this country (as an aside i was a bit alarmed to learn that today's pyrex is not designed to be used at the same high heats as 'old' pyrex and is somewhat likely to explode at high temperatures!)
