Purplemaniacs
In March 2011 we got three lovely ex batts, we lost Annie last year and since then Agatha and Agnes have been very happy and healthy together. Last night when I shut them up for the night Agatha was still in the run, she showed no sign of moving into the eglu, so after a while I picked her up and put her in the spare eglu, sadly she had died during the night. She never laid an egg and had a funny shaped eye Now that leaves me with a problem one ex batt Agnes on her own. When the chicks I hatched started to grow I had a move around to leave the and new (to me) free for the bantan chicks. The ex batts went into the sectioned off end of the WIR with the other , while the hybrids were in the larger end of the WIR with their . Will Agnes be ok on her own as she can see the hybrid girls, or should I move one of the others in with her, or should I just open up the divide and let them in together. They have been in seperate areas of the WIR for about 2 months. I am a bit worried that one new ex batt girl and five hybrids who are not always nice is too much for Agnes to cope with. OH says get some more ex batts but that still leaves Agnes on her own. I know it is my fault as I should have mixed them together while there were still the two of them but they seemed so happy together Sorry I have gone on a bit Chrissie
Tweety
I'm sorry to hear about Agatha. I would be tempted to open up the divide between Agnes and the hybrids, and see what happens. They have been side by side for a long time and, although there may be a bit of argy bargy at first, I have found that ex batts can stand up for themselves very well and things may not be as bad as you fear. It might be easier if you can free range them all together, so that they have space to get out of the way if there is any trouble. Good luck! Chortle Chook
I am sorry you have lost Agatha I'd be inclined to gradually let your hybrids in with Agnes - one at a time till they are all together.
Gertie
Sorry to hear that Agatha has passed. I mentioned in another post that the same happened to my last ex batt Plucky, just leaving Rosie. I integrated her through free ranging with 3 new POL hens I got. They are now all happily living in one after a couple of months of supervised free ranging together!
