Little bit excited - might be getting an eglu!

Recommended Posts

Yay :D Ive been looking at eglus on ebay and I have only gone and bid on one  Fingers crossed I get it as I'm desperate to get a couple of new girlies, so need something for intros. After intros, then my plan is to try and hire it out if I can :)

Will probably get a couple of hybrids - maybe a black rock type and a speckeldy (so long as I don't get side-tracked into looking at pure breeds like that beautiful one in the recent post by somebody else with the fluffy thing on its head). Really I am looking for a couple of good layers like my Betty (Columbian Blacktail). Any recommendations? (My other current chicken is a Rhode Sussex, who it an "intermittent egg layer" )

Anyway, it all hangs on whether I manage to get an eglu

Boo  I've been outbid again and I've maxxed out. Never mind, there are a few other ones still on there running over the next few days, so it will be interesting to see how much they are going for. Shame though, because this was a lovely red one (even though my absolute favourite would be a pink one). Unfortunately I cant afford to buy a lovely shiny new one :boohoo: Will keep an eye on EBay over the next few days............otherwise, if I cant get one within my budget then I'll have to go back to my original plan which was to buy a small wooden coop for intros :(

We bought a rabbit one and then a conversion kit from Omlet, the rabbit ones don't seem to go for so much (that was a couple of years ago) and others on here have said just use the rabiit base but we did convert ours.

I have recently bought another through the omlet for sale area this time and have left it as a rabbit base as I am using it for chicks.

Good luck

Chrissie

i bought a rabbit one off ebay for about £90, then got the converter kit so in total it cost a lot less than a 2nd hand chicken one would have cost on there.

also a good idea for bidding on ebay is to wait until right at the end of bidding and put in your highest final bid- that way you arent tempted to go higher, and also you may just win it at the last minute as other people dont have time to enter another bid! saves paying for sniping software! :)
