welovemarmite
Have just got back from holiday and one of my chooks is a little odd. The only way to describe her is the look of a runner duck, ie the bottom pointing directly to the floor. She is perky, eating and drinking, although she cant eat off the ground only from the feeder. She cant jump up as she seems to have no power. I have checked her over and no obvious lumps bumps etc. No obvious signs of pain when i prod and poke. No limping. She is a hybrid and on of our originals so I think probably about four years old (cant remember what yeat i started!) Any ideas? Could it be old age? As she is perky should i leave her be? Tweety
I would be inclined to take her to the vet for a check-up.
Egghead68
Is her bottom fluid-filled? Sounds like it could be peritonitis. Various treatment options (drainng, suprelorin implants) available at chicken-specialist vets. You need to take her asap.
welovemarmite
There is no fluid. it seems absolutely fine down there.
Tweety
Well there is clearly something not right. Like Egghead, I immediately thought of peritonitis, but if all is ok in that department then I am at a loss as to what it might be. It could be age-related, or something neurological perhaps. I still think the vet is your best bet.
welovemarmite
i will need to speak to the vet and see if they know anything chicken related, or it will be no better than me trying to work it out.
LottyJ1
My ex batt starte standing like a duck and when I took her to the vet he said it was either peritionitis or a tumor. She was also depressed and not eating or drinking though.
welovemarmite
it is strange. Hubbie put out some trimmings for them and she was straight in there with the rest. If it wasnt for the runner duck impression you wouldnt think there was anything wrong.
Egghead68
I see you are in Oxon/Bucks area. You will need a vet with knowledge of chckens not a general vet. There is a list on the website. In Bucks I use Steve Smith in Wendover Heights. I think there is also someone in Windsor. Good luck.
