The first thing I have noticed about my three new girls is that their poos really really stink! I guess this is down to their diet up till now, or something to do with their age? Has anyone else found this when they have new chickens? All seems fine otherwise and they have been eating the Garvo mash that the others eat and have been drinking and even had a few mealworms.

 

At bed time they all sat out in the run so I did the thing with the torch - within a few minutes they all toddled in to bed without a fuss! I was impressed at how well that worked.

 

So, a nice quiet evening after the initial grumbling and squawking at the start. Mind you, Betty and Bessie had to be put to bed as I think they wanted to keep vigil outside just to keep an eye on things!

Congratulations sounds like you've cracked it already. One lot of chickens I had stunk when new, I think they were used to having a lot of apple cider vinegar in their water. It went after a day or two.

My wee ones stunk when they arrived, got better after being on Garvo for about a week but still smelt a bit more than my previous older girls. Have been adding bokashi for a few days and seem to be better, but might just be they are older....
