Rooster in an Eglu?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Does anyone keep a rooster in their eglu with their hens? As I have 3 hens and a rooster who are about 25 weeks old and the girls have not started laying, and I'm wondering whether the presence of the rooster is stressing them out? He crows very loudly all day!

Any help or advice will be appreciated!

Thanks

I have a cockerel in every eglu, the cube & every coop I have. To be honest, they seem to make my girls behave themselves a lot better than they would without. I know for a fact, that hubby's girls would be absolutely everywhere without ' Sid' the cockerel. Yes, they wander, but alays the same route & places & if you find ' Sid', his ladies are never far away.

I like how the cockerels warn of any potential danger / threat, even if it is just the postman or a friend calling.

It gives me a warning, that someone is about.

I also like how they round the ladies up at night in each house & tell them off if they are still mooching about at dusk.

A cockerel makes no difference - apart from to your neighbours!
