When can I give flubenvet again ?

Recommended Posts

I finished the 7 day course on Sunday but since I have stopped using it in the feed I have noticed that Fliss has 'lost' her voice again a problem she has had since March and as I said in a previous post the vet said she was a healthy bird etc and it may just be one of those things.

Im just wondering if I could start them on another course so soon, she seemed so much happier when she could talk to us :-(

Oh no, how strange! Must be related, too much of a coincidence. I wonder if that info could help diagnose permanently... Think it's quite harsh on the gut to use all the time so not sure when you could start again... Phone the supplier? You were thinking gape worm before weren't you? Did you double the dose?

Quick update !

Well just been and checked on Fliss weirdly she was in the nest box (well its not a nest box but an old guinea pig house that my girls like to lay in :o ) didnt think she is one of the girls laying so thats a bit odd. Anyway she seemed gaspy again (like an asthma type thing) so I thought id give her some apple cider vinegar and give it to her via a syringe so that way I know she has had some whilst doing so I noticed a huge lump on her neck, not sure how longs thats been there never noticed it before but its hidden under her feathers. We are now booked in to see the vet tomorrow morning just hope its nothing serious :-(

Thanks guys

I have just come back from the vets who was just a baffled as me, mind you last night I had one of those duh !! moments it wasnt a lump but just a full crop :-0 which this morning was down as it should be (of course full again nw after a large brekkie)

Anyway the vet gave her a good examination and said her air sacs are clear, agreed that some chickens do have allergies we did chuckle as my vet rekons that Fliss sounds like she is having 40 a day plus of the ciggies (better keep an eye on her to see if she is a secret smoker!) she has advised to repeat the flubenvet in 3 weeks but said that Fliss appears a healthy bird (minus the cough thing) and if I dont see any improvement then to take her back.

She also gave Judith a quick look but we still have no idea if she is a she or a he (could be 4-8 weeks so thats a tense wait please please be a girl, I will be cross if shes not as the seller assured me of her sex)

The bonus to my vets visit is that she hasnt charged me :D

I will keep you posted after the next course of flubenvet, I think until then I will occasionally add cod liver oil to the feed I have read its a good way to 'winterise' the birds and mine seemed to LOVE it mind you so do the cats so that may be fun

Ok so a quick update :

I have waited the 3 weeks as advised we are now day 7 of the flubenvet (im using the medicated pellets) I think I was told that I can go up to 10 days. Well this morning after a rude awakeaning by two of my other girls it is clear that Fliss has her voice back ! So whatever is wrong with her seems to be cured by flubenvet ??? I suppose my next step is to see what happens when I stop the treatment. Mind you I still have a lot of pellets left which I was told by the company who supplied them to mix with their normal feed as it only lasts 8 weeks ??

Yes the vet was sure it wasnt gapeworm and I would have thought if it had been I would have lost her by now as this has been going on since March. When she saw the vet she said that shew as a very healthy bird in fact she was very impressed with her condition (apart from this cough thing) Up until that point I had assummed she wasnt laying but I had found her in their nest house and the vet said she would be very shocked if she wsnt laying as she was showing all the signs that she was in lay. Fliss is about 2 now I think
