sadietoo
So DS is at Uni.....he is however still waiting for student loans to process his application although they had all the forms in July.......decided they needed extra evidence on .....12 September...start date at UNi..16 September...phoned them today...apparently because he has changed course they needed his NI number (again!!) and a copy of his passport (again)....I pointed out that he has changed his course but not his identity...they said it's the rules... I pointed out that Queens won't issue him with a student card...which means that he can't access the library or joint the gym or any clubs as well as parts of the building for his course (it's specialised using very expensive equipment) they said 10-14 days...I said that's ridiculous.....they said 10-14 days.... I said can you at least confirm that you will pay the tuition loan to Queens they said 10-14 days..(doesn't broken record drive you mad when you are on the receiving end!!).. I am going to e-mail the Uni tomorrow with details of his account and with the assurance that we will guarantee the Tuition fees (thank you Nick Clegg and others!! ) Just needed to get that off my chest..! Geoid
That doesn't make any sense, I changed my course and just had to send a confirmation letter off
sadietoo
Just feel I have to redress the balance a little as although in the early part of the week my conversations with Student Loans included "is Queens Belfast a private college?" and being told that the course DS is doing wasn't on their list so they couldn't fund it.. .......all was redeemed by a guy at Student Loans called Daniel (sorry Daniel I didn't catch your surname) who clearly should be doing something else with his life as he was able to talk to me like another human being, and come up with a solution to the problem so that DS now has funding....YAY!! Thank you Daniel, it was great to deal with you.... So for anyone else banging their heads against the wall dealing with some faceless bureaucracy hold on tight, and keep trying, there must be more than one Daniel out there......... Willow
I was wondering how you were getting on, glad to hear it's al sorted. Thanks goodness for the 'Daniels' of the world
Ms Marple
Yup. We had a similar problem last year with YS. Which after much was eventually sorted by a HUMAN being!!! It is a vicious circle with one thing dependent on the next and too much bureaucracy. Ys had had results in the system since July 3rd as he did the IB as opposed to A levels- but UCAS managed to somehow lose him completely?? Uni were not much better as they started treating him as if he had come through clearing. The worst part was that he eventually ended up in a student flat with 5 others - fine except they were all Chinese from mainland China - so they chose to speak mainly their own language- obvious really and the flat was like was chaos as they ran it their way regardless of rules- such as no smoking! He survived the experience and this year is very happy in a house with mates. Glad you are sorted now though
Alis girls
can someone please describe these "human beings" so that I can identify one when ES leaves for uni in 2yrs. Well done for getting it sorted - I am in awe.
Ms Marple
Thinking more, I think it was a Daniel/ THE Daniel at student loans who helped us. YS only got accommodation two days before we left to take him to Birmingham but the loan took longer and everyone else seems to give you answers like,'we've emailed you/written to you". Really on which planet?? I had forgotten about this until now- sorry to keep up a year old rant
surfer_chicken
Reading all these horror stories makes me so glad mine came through okay! I arrived on a Friday and my loan came through the following Monday. Having a lot of trouble sorting out my tuition loan though, mostly because the uni won't confirm what my fees actually are
