Dahato3
How lovely!! You can't beat that feeling when you discover a newly laid first egg!! Can I ask what breed of ducks you have and how old they are?
Chortle Chook
What did you do with the egg? Are there things that are better with duck eggs than with chicken eggs and vice-versa? I have call ducks so won't be getting many eggs, but I did find one and I admit that its slightly greenish colour did put me off a bit. coppers
Our favourite method of cooking is poached on a bed of wilted spinach on a hot, buttered, toasted muffin. Mmmmmm. Also delicious fried or scrambled (haven't had them boiled with soldiers). Great to use in quiches, omelettes and when baking sponges too. One of our two lays white shelled eggs, the other duck egg blue (funnily enough ). Everyone wants one of the blue eggs! xx
Chortle Chook
Thanks, Coppers. Ours had a slightly greeny shell and to my shame I cooked it up for the dogs but next time I'll do scrambled eggs. Is it true that duck eggs have a short shelf life? If so how quickly should I eat them after they have been laid?
chestnutmare
My parents have a duck who I swear must be about 21 now.

Chortle Chook
Ooo I did not mean 'eat the poor ducks' - just their eggs. On the subject of age, however, I've heard that 20 is a normal age for ducks to reach - I'll star another post on this so we can find out more
