dgreenster
as relative newbie chicken keepers i wondered about the slowing down of egg laying over the winter.... our two omlet chickens ( POL May 2012 ) have pretty much given us one a day since they arrived- but one of them has been laying later and later on the day over the past week and today nothing- i assume this is a normal seasonal slowing- she is fit and fine in all other ways- i just wondered what i should be expecting from my gals as it is getting darker/ colder- thank you omleteers
zakjon-98
Are there any feathers in their run? They moult around this time of year normally and stop laying to grow new feathers.
Purplemaniacs
I found that my Omlet girls and my hybrids laid reasonably well during their first winter, not an egg a day but a few each week. After their first winter I found my hybrids had a rest during the darker days and then started again once the longer days start again. Although I hate having to buy eggs I do think these winter breaks are good for them. Chrissie
