MrsQueen
My little sebright Minnie keeps cuddling up during the day and night under Miranda, a white star, who's POL but hasn't laid any eggs yet. They are ever so cute and both seem to really enjoy it but was wondering if it could put Miranda off laying? Karin
Chortle Chook
I would not have thought that would put her off. It is quite possible that though sold as POL your Miranda may not be quite there yet. You can usually tell if her comb is getting nice and bright red. I'm sure it won't be long
zakjon-98
I doubt it would put her off laying. My smallest chicken sits under my top hen all the time and both are good layers so I agree she may not be old enough yet. Hope she lays you some soon

Redwing
No external factors will put a White Star off laying, its what they have been developed to do! Dont worry too much, it will happen soon for sure
MrsQueen
Thanks for you comments. She's ready when she's ready. Happy they can carry on cuddling. Do think she was sold as very young POL but whenever it will be I'm looking forward to it
sjp
POL covers a multitude of sins. some sellers call 16 week olds POL because the old battery sheds could get warrens laying at that age. a good breeder will tell you 18 -20 weeks. but personnaly I don't like my pullets laying before 23 weeks old that way they've more or less finnished feathering up and they're that little bit bigger and mature. also after about mid September the days start getting shorter a lot quicker so that has an impacted. so personally I don't expect my 3 24 week old pullets to start to lay much before boxing day but more than likely after new year as thats when the days really start to get longer. plus there they dates that I've had pullets start to lay in the last few years
hopingforchickens
Out of my original 3 - all sold as POL, one laid at around 17 weeks and the last at about 30 weeks, you just have to wait till they are ready!
MrsQueen
Miranda laid her first egg on Friday. Silly how excited you can be seeing them in the nestbox but oh how I Love it! Not white or cream tho her eggs more a fair skincolour shade. Nevertheless they are beautiful and taste Devine

MrsQueen
Definitely worth waiting for!!! I did the egg dance yes Hubby was out with me and opened the door and it was an ooh in a squeal format! Never heard that noise before! Very exciting as it was also the first time there was 3 in the nest box all together. Collection of egg photos is rapidly growing...
