good_egg
In the poo tray this morning was something a bit strange. It looked like someone had pooed an egg yolk, perhaps with some caecal poo and a little bit of white! Not sure who did - I have two that have been laying perfectly and one starting to crouch with another a bit behind. Everyone looked ok, tails up and eating but it was still dark.... Is this something that happens? Never seen anything other than softies (and peritonitis)
The Dogmother
I wouldn't worry, it's quite normal to get bits like that when they are coming into lay.
good_egg
Thanks Dogmother. I'll stay calm (just now!)
gongladosh
I wouldn't worry about it, she's fine.
Mrs_B
It's easy for me to say 'don't worry' because I would be worried myself if I saw something out of the ordinary One of my hens laid so many softies to begin with, sometimes two a day and I was sure something had to be wrong - but now she is laying perfectly fine and hasn't laid a softie for a looong while! I am sure your gorgeous girls are just getting into the swing of things when it comes to laying their lovely eggs x
good_egg
Thanks everyone. Needed reassured by people who would understand! I'll hope for a proper egg soon! Good to hear others take a while to settle but manage ok!
good_egg
Came home to a shell less egg (white and yolk) in run. Hard to tell if everyone is ok as they are all in bed. Hope so. At least I don't have egg eaters on my hand - was untouched!! Forgot to say am worming them just now. Assume this wouldn't have an impact but just though I'd mention in case I should stop. The Dogmother
If they are due to be wormed then go ahead, do it quarterly with Flubenvet to keep them in top health. Odd egg issues aren't unusual at the beginning and end of their laying career.
