That guilty face

Recommended Posts

If ever there was a lurcher with a guilty face then Ruby had one yesterday... shame I didn't have a camera to hand.

'Someone' had counter surfed and got into the cake tin and polished off the last third of a freshly made lemon drizzle cake  It was placed well back on the surface and the cake tin was firmly closed so it must have taken some ingenuity. Cyrus ran up to greet me as usual - all waggy tail and no guile at all (he's a simple lad like most males) Ruby was laid on her bed, trying hard not to look at me, and she had a distinct look of indigestion about her.

No dinner for that norty hound, nor any Alka Seltzers! I doubt she will learn, although to give her credit, she rarely counter surfs.

Sometimes you just have to be naughty.

 I can see you'd make a good pair.

Phil seems to think that she will learn form the tummy ache not to steal cake in future... I very much doubt that; the thieving streak runs far too deep and the owner of any lurcher never leaves food within reach. I just hadn't allowed that she'd grown opposing thumbs and managed to get into the cake tin

I doubt that too. Tango once stole some bird fat balls from my Mum and Dad's garden with hugely unpleasant consequences (who knew shampooing the carpet was such hard work? ). She still sniffs hopefully round the bird food bin whenever she goes over there, even though the lid is now firmly clamped on!

Yes, the guilty face I found upon getting up today said it all too. Our greyhound has taken a liking for the bin and got in in it (literally head first vertically!) to retrieve half a stale loaf and other assorted rubbish bits to scatter around the kitchen... Delightful bit of hoovering and cleaning while recovering from flu! Animals...

Got to say that I know exactly where you are coming from re owning lurchers!

For some reason a couple of days ago one of ours had got hold of Oh's indigestion tablets and had one, I think - ironic as he'd been sick the day before!

The worst had to be our first lurcher who managed to steal the half eaten leg of lamb, and proudly brought it into the dinning room in front of our guests. The shame of it!!:oops:

As for bins...... :)

I think that's why they've evolved long snouts and neck - all the better to thieve with

Ruby mostly doesn't counter surf or steal, but she has her moments. Cyrus was terrible when we got him, but much better now that he's properly fed and knows where his next meal is coming from.

Your pack looks interesting Clunie :D

Yes, even if I have to say so myself our pack is quite interesting (when they are not stealing - deerhounds do too!)

there are 2 deerhounds who are sisters but of different litters - one is 28" tts, the other 32"

The current two lurchers are siblings. We got the male one first and he is pale fawn and almost smooth coated - always always looking for anything to put in his mouth! His sister is much smaller about 24" and looks ike a very pale deerhound. We were asked to rescue her by her breeder as the previous owners circumstances had changed. She too is a thief but prefers the cat crunchies!

Our first lurcher was a deerhound whippet cross we think. we rescued her from the pound - she had been found wandering and to say that she was an opportunist surfer is an understatement. Unfortunately the day after we got her she amost died with parvo virus. So she was always special to us. Even although she has been gone for 5 and a half years now - almost as lond as we had her - I still miss her fiesty character.

Got to love them all!!
