christyrose12
I have bought myself a beautiful RED orpington today. I didnt know they existed until last night when a friend offered me one. Has anyone else got one? Does anyone know how the red colour is bred? Daphne
Congratulations They are pretty rare as they are a non-standard colour and not many people have them. I'm not sure how they were bred originally, possibly a buff or white x jubilee out crossed to a red Sussex somewhere along the way to deepen the colour, or a Rhodie, but that has yellow legs. The problem with most of them is either they aren't very typey or the colour is patchy and not deep enough. Black smuts, especially on the tail are another issue. I think they are really nice though and to breed good quality ones consistently could be a nice project
christyrose12
I will try and put a photo up tomorrow. Yes, she does have black bits on her tail but she is a gorgeous colour. I cant really breed from her. Shes just pretty to look at

Valkyrie
Ugh photobucket - I have the problem of resizing to a suitable size and then it says it's too large when I try and upload it. Even with replacing the original - haven't quite worked out how to do it separately! But I'd love to see the red orpie.
