Our poor chickens got visit from fox

Recommended Posts

Our 2 chickens, our 1st chicken pets, got killed by the fox last night. They were in the Eglu Go with both front and ack doors shut but the fox somehow got in. Any suggestions of how? Has anyone else had this happen? Will it be safe to get new chickens o keep the 1 surviving bantam company? Immediate feeling is to feel sorry for the lonesome bantam, all on her own out there... Thoughts please

Thanks to all for your kind thoughts for our poor chickens. How the fox got in remains a mystery, it didn't tunnel under, there were no signs of it even attempting to. All chickens were shut securely in the Eglu Go (as far as we were concerned) but my husband found the back off, tray pulled out and the awful sight of blood/feathers and 1 dead chicken left behind. I am hoping that "Ooops, word censored!"ody else had backdrop of the Go problems in case this was a common problem. I have tried to rattle it around to see if it will fall off or the house wobble enough for the mechanism to loosen but it doesn't seem to.

On a much happier note, myself and my daughters went to buy 3 new chickens yesterday! We now have Maggie, Flora and Hetty to keep Tinkerbell company. My husband and I just nervous they are going to be safe. Our 11month old son used to be what kept us awake, now it is also listening out for Mr Fox!

So so sorry ....I too had concerns about the wobbly back..we have always upended our metal wheel barrow against the back figuring that was one more barrier and any pesky fox trying to get pat it would wake us up....what with that and the concrete lumps we have dotted around the skirting o hold it down ( we started with the omlet pegs but they all broke eventual) we don't have the prettiest of set ups but safe happ chooks are more important...
