I slathered the oven in the solution, put the shelves in the bag and chucked the rest of the solution in, gave it a good shake and left the whole lot to work overnight. It's got the worst of the muck off everything, but it's not spotless, so..... the shelves have gone back in the bag for a second soak and I've squirted Oven Mate all over the oven to get the rest of the muck off. Nice and gleamy, ungreasy cooker now and no work at all if I stick to doing a bit each day. I've even cleaned the fiddly bit in the seal. So, thanks for the thread and the ovenglove tip is inspired. I think if I was going to fork out for one I'd want a multipurpose one.
