Broody hen -

Recommended Posts

If she isn't getting off the nest to eat or drink, you will need to physically remove her from the nest and place her by the food and water at least once a day, she may complain a little. Don't worry your eggs will be fine and she will return to sit on them after she has eaten. I am no expert either, just a little advice I thought might help :) Good Luck!

You do need to physically remove broody hens from nests. They may screech and fluff up but pick em up and turf em out is my motto. We bought a standard pet cage that we use for broodies (adapted with a perch and feeding bowls) - they get put in there for a couple of days and they soon give up. If you have no option try throwing a few ice cubes in the nest box as this will cool them somewhat.
