Got some new ladies today from Beacon Stud:

Cuckoo Maran or Barred Rock? Thought I'd got a Rock but was told I'd get dark brown eggs Edit: we've decided she's a barred rock.

 

Magic Chicken (apparently lays blue and brown eggs alternately! we shall see) Possibly the owner of the egg laid on the way home! Edit: nope that was Lemon

Crested Cream Legbar

 

So far only magic chicken has a provisional name, of "Magic". I like to wait a bit before naming to see if it suits or if they do something particular and make/choose their own names.

 

Edit: So the Cream Legbar has dodgy parentage and lays almost white eggs instead of blue, she is now called Lemon.

The silver Sussex laid a couple of double yolkers then settled down to laying a nice dark brown egg, and cackling loudly about them, she is called Nimbus.

Magic is still called Magic, but as to whether she lays different coloured eggs on alternate days we still don't know as she has so far declined to lay any.

The barred rock is called Agate (which is a stripey stone ) She too hasn't laid yet, but she is still quite little so may be younger than the others.

Gorgeous they look well settled already. I've been to a farm today on totally unrelated to chickens mission - but they had a large range of girls ready to go. But I resisted.
