Woohoo! I'm getting a cube!!!

Recommended Posts

I'm so excited - tomorrow evening I'm going to collect a very nearly new cube!:clap: It's only had a few months use and when I saw it yesterday I was over the moon. The lovely owner is going on over dismantle it for me, and I've downloaded the manual from the website so I can try to build it before the girls go to bed tomorrow night.

Only thing is that I have no idea how to get them to use the cube instead of the classic. I'm redoing my finances left right and centre and just don't think I can afford both so the classic will have to be sold :( despite my wanting pekins and the fear I'll not be able to get them to mix. We did the chicken keeping course at Mini Meadows yesterday and I think my son has worse Morehens than me - he has decided he wants to be a poultry farmer when he grows up :D

So :? ... Do I put the cube at the other end of the netting and let them explore it for a few days? They only FR when I get home from work, around 5.15, until they put themselves to bed. Or... Do I plonk hem in the cube after dark tomorrow and dismantle the classic immediately so they get no choice? So far only fuchsia is laying, though by the look of Galax she may start any day. I don't want to stress them out unduly...

I would just put them in the cube tomorrow night, either let them put themselves to bed in it (if you can lock them in the run) or lift them over. The ladder may confuse them a bit but it can't be more stressful than when you get them and they change garden and home....

That said, Buffy flew over the temporary fence yesterday to try and get to the old cube location to lay despite the fact she had to walk past it in new location to escape!!

When we moved our hybrids from a (purple eglu) to a (cube purple) I put them in the cube so that they had an idea of where to go, they soon got the hang of it. If you leave the eglu I think they will just go to that and ignore their lovely new cube.

I put an upturned flower pot at the base of the ladder to give them a first step.

What colour cube are you getting? I have to say I am the odd one out as I prefer the (purple eglu) to the (cube purple) but most omleteers love their (cube purple) s :D

Thanks guys, I'm really pathetically giddy about it. It is a green one. I'm not too sure on the purple or the red... and I've never been a pink girl! If I'd got a brand new one it would have been yellow or orange, but I'm thinking the green is a bit more understated which suits me fine.

A flowerpot sounds like a good idea. I'll have to have a dig round and see what's the right kind of size when I get it home.

I do love the classic but a number of reasons, including a dodgy knee, mean that the cube makes more sense at least for the time being.
