maggoty eggs - moral dilemma

Recommended Posts

So, I've been feeding one of my hens white fishing maggots for her crop problem.

OH has gone over all queasy :vom: and doesn't want to eat her eggs now  , even though she eats all sorts of maggoty things and creepy crawlies when she is free ranging.

Ok, the maggots smell vile, but don't they always, and I have no idea what they were fed on, but the hen seems to have suffered no ill effects after eating 1/4 pint of them.

I was planning on feeding her eggs to the dogs for a few days, given OH's issues, but I'm baking cakes today and have run out of eggs. Do I:

a) sneak in the maggoty eggs and not tell him and try to keep a straight face when he says how yummy the cake is

b) make wheat intolerant son biscuits instead of cake and try to convince him that he has not been short changed, (he's 3 btw)

Thanks! :D

Use them. Hens are natural filters - if you could see everything they eat when they are free-ranging, it might put you off eggs forever, but whatever they eat the eggs are always perfect.* He'll never know.

*I admit that when the hens have found a dead mouse in the garden, I give the eggs away for the next few days
