When Darcy Vader our Black Rock started laying recently the first three eggs were huge, all double yokers. Since then she has laid tiny brown eggs. Will they increase in size as she gets older?

Ours seem to vary we go from 40g+ eggs to 80g+ eggs and everything in between......I have been updating the egg tally everyday so I can see the progress of each hen and Hilda who started laying first is slowly increasing each week......

 

Keep track of them and you will then be able to see how they are doing......

I have read that as they get older, especially after thay have moulted they lay fewer eggs, but larger ones

our girls so far have no pattern for size, some days they are small & other days they are biggies

I have been trying to discover the same thing - our eggs are all about 40g but the girls are only about 22 weeks - so I am wondering if the eggs are going to get bigger as the chicks do.

Yes they do get bigger! My year old hens lay approx 65g eggs daily. The 2 year olds lay 70 -80g eggs, but with more breaks in between (Beryl is up to 80g every other day).

yes they do get bigger as they get older. Ours were very small at first but now we regularly get some whopping 83g+ double yolkers.

I've had a lot of variation from laying biggish eggs from the start (hybrids), to starting with tiny eggs and increasing in size (pure breeds). They do overall increase in size with age.

Eggs are supposed to increase in size during the laying season as well.

Sometimes this does happen but the eggs will slowly increase in size. No worries
