I'm really, really hoping this is totally fox proof now I got 4 new chickens from Warwickshire Chicken Coop yesterday Here they are....... auntielizzie Posted June 11, 2013 Share Posted June 11, 2013 Love the fact that you have all those lovely trees in your garden, but not a blade of grass I assume that's the chickens who did that for you Can I just ask whether you laid your slabs on anything, or whether you just levelled out the ground and laid the slabs directly on the ground without the need for any concrete or sand? I only ask because that is exactly what I am planning to do tomorrow. The (grassless) ground is so hard after two years of chicken feet and wont take much to level it and like you I want to make the coop and run foxproof (and ratproof). The chickens are responsible for the missing grass They have that area of the garden to trash and poo on as much as they like......and they do For the slabs, we levelled the ground, then put weed control fabric down, then some builders sand on top of that. If you get the ground really flat and level, it won't need a lot of sand, just enough to bed the slabs in and make sure they are all in line.
