clucker1
How long do you need to leave the little darlings' poo before being able to put it on and around plants/veg in the garden?
Daphne
I put it in the compost bins and so its usually at least 6 months old or so, but I'm sure it would be OK before then. Although you shouldn't use it straightaway near veg or young tender plants as its strong and may scorch/damage them, and I'm not sure that pure muck near an edible plant is a good idea,I do routinely chuck it straight out of the pens and under hedges where it makes them grow like mad I also shove it neat under mature shrubs and around roses
Olly
I think 4-6 months is best, as Daphne says, it will scorch any young and tender plants because it's quite 'hot' - however that's what makes it so fab in the compost heap, anything else you chuck in there will usually break down quite fast. In winter I chuck it straight onto empty raised beds, on the basis that by the time I come to plant anything it will have broken down. chickencam
We tend to leave ours for a whole season, it either goes into the compost bins with aubiose or to the allotment on the large compost heap there and then gets spread the following early spring. We have a muck heap at the allotment that has horse muck from last year with aubiose and chook poo on top, I have planted my butternut squashes, and pumpkins on top of it this yearand they seem to be doing well.
