good_egg
Connie has/had bumblefoot... The vet gave us stuff to apply an iodine poultice each day and amoxicillin.. The black scab bit came off a few days ago now and a small plug but like a verucca came too... She now has a kind of round hole in her foot but its healing ok... I've read a few things that say you need to make sure everything nasty is out but I don't really want to go digging about without reason! What I'm trying to work out is how long I should keep applying the iodine poultice for as I know it softens the foot and I don't want to overdo this... Should I just put micropore over to keep it clean or should I stop completely and keep an eye on it?
Mrs_B
Oh poor you, good_egg! I haven't got any advise as I have no experience with Bumblefoot at all, but wanted to say that I hope your girl gets better soon! Hugs! x
The Dogmother
I would get either some Animalintex or Naturalintex (drawing poultices) and apply a wet poultice to draw out any infection, but only if you suspect that there's still some in there. good_egg
How would I tell? It looks quite clean and pink and seems to be healing up but the footpad might still be a tiny bit swollen. I kind of squeezed it a bit last night and nothing happened... Would a picture help? If there isn't anything left should I stop with the iodine? Thankyou so much. Sorry for useless questions. The Dogmother
It doesn't sound as if it's still infected from your description; I'd squirt it with some vet wound powder and cover it up as best you can.
Egghead68
I'm glad she's better.
good_egg
Thanks everyone. I'll have another double check tonight but will probably wound powder and dress and leave the iodine now. Fingers crossed...
Luvachicken
I'm glad you asked this as I was going to too. Gemma is now in the broody cage, cos she's broody , so this should give her feet a little rest anyway
