soapdragon
Just wondering if anyone from the forum (or rellies) are off to the wonderful Bunkfest (folky)in Wallingford this weekend? We live about 20 mins away and so drive in and park each day tho there is camping for those from further afield. Its something of a tradition for us; have been the last 5 years and its the 'final fling' before the schools go back! We always take a picnic on Friday as its setting up and then suss out the stalls and go back on Saturday morning and stay for the day, usually returning on Sunday if the weather is good....amazing food stalls esp the wood fired oven pizzas and the tartiflette - lots of veggie/vegan choice too. Its SUCH fun and very family friendly (tho not good for dogs as it can get VERY crowded!) beer tent with good local beers and ciders and many brilliant stalls. There is every kind of dancing from Yorkshire clog to belly (not everything stopping when the music does! ) to Border Morris (scary!) and the ubiquitous 'men with hankies and bells'! Lots of workshops too for those wanting to get more involved. Wallingford is a pretty town with some interesting shops.....perhaps I should have posted this before but have only just 'caught up with myself' at the end of the hols....its always the last weekend before schools go back but seems to creep up on me each year!!! If anyone is going...let me know and perhaps we can meet up!
Cinnamon
Never heard of it before, but I like Wallingford, so we may go. Its Jamie Oliver's 'The Big Feastival' this weekend too, which we went to last year & really enjoyed. Lots of great food, celeb chefs, music from Razorlight & Texas. Its down near Woodstock. I am not so keen on the music this year though.
Patricia W
Near us too, but busy this weekend. Wallingford, of course, is the murder capital of Midsummer Murders so be careful! Have a good time.
Cinnamon
We went to The Retro Festival a couple of weekends ago, which was Maidenhead way, & they were filming 'Midsomer Murders' there. I think we are in a few crowd shots!
The Dogmother
We were going to give the Feastival a miss this year too - line-up not to our tastes and expensive if you're not listening to something you really like. We're a bit busy, or I'd look up Bunkfest
Cinnamon
It is expensive - we only went last year because we had BOGOF tickets
soapdragon
Ah but Bunkfest is FREE! Turn up by 9.30am tho if you plan to park in Wallingford itself rather than the Park and Ride that is set up for the event. Just got back from a relaxing afternoon watching things setting up and looking at the stalls...some good ones this year and the famous Mr Alexander for the children (brilliant entertainer! ) Looked at the food stalls and decided whats for lunch tomorrow - predictably wood fired pizza again! PM me this eve anyone, if you fancy going/meeting up!
soapdragon
What a fantastic day! Have just got home after spending 6 hours enjoying great music, dance, food and atmosphere. On again tomorrow if anyone is able to go....really recommended!
