Chickabee
Probably sounds like a silly question. I should have asked the rescue lady. One of them keeps escaping from the run, so I guess she's jumping/flying. She doesn't go far though, and couldn't get out of my garden
gavclojak
Mine were done when I got them, I thought all BHWT hens were clipped before homing. Wish they had done the beaks as I am having a nightmare at the moment!!
paulad
not sure if ours were done when we picked them up i will do them next year when their feathers have grown back a bit more. you might as well do them though if u think there is a chance of an escape
Lavenders_Blue
I've never found any of my ex batts have been inclined to fly anywhere. However, yours clearly has experienced a taste of freedom and is keen to have more! I think it depends how bothered you are about the hen escaping and what trouble she is likely to get into. I have a hen that used to keep escaping - she would hop out of the run, FR round the garden for a bit, then hop back in when she had had enough. She used to do this maybe 10 times a day! I didn't mind from the FR point of view, but I was always nervous of accidental dog/chicken interactions (my dog has previous form with killing a couple of our hens ) so in the end we built a secure WIR to stop any hens escaping. coco
I had an ex batt that never flew but would escape by wriggling under the omlet mesh and walking down the road. She always used to come running when I shook the corn pot. None of my other big hens are inclined to fly.
Chickabee
I'm not going to bother then. I'm not worried about them escaping to the garden, my dogs are very chook friendly Becket the guide dog puppy making friends
