Help, I'm losing my nerve!

Recommended Posts

My daughter aged 9 gave up washing her hair over three months ago without any real difficulty. It looks great. My son aged 7 followed shortly afterwards, then my 3 year old announced she didn't want shampoo either. So that just left OH and myself. My daughter kept asking when i would try but I just fobbed her off until the summer holidays when i have 6 weeks off. So under duress I stopped washing 5 days ago. It's not been too bad but at the end of day six I feel I need something to help me carry on. Is there anything I can do to help make me feel better, less greasy? :( I'm thinking of giving up but I know it will upset my daughter.

8) Well done! Have you read the "Right Girls..Not Using Shampoo" thread at all too? It's very long, but you could read a bit at a time to give you an idea how some of us fared. Then you can use our experience to your advantage.

I found the bicarb great for occasional use. Try to resist using again in less than a fortnight, the benefit is far greater with a decent gap.

I did 10 months, finishing in January when I needed a lift. However, I now only use shampoos without SLS or SLES, either Faith in Nature or Green People & will never, ever use a drop of mainstream brands for myself or daughters.

I still sometimes just use water, and my new hair is in such great condition.

I can feel with my fingers the smoothness of the new hair, and where the dryness starts on the pre experiment hair, it's incredible!

Well done to you & your children. But, read up and do what's right for you.

Louise and Myles(Anne) are still on just water after 17 months I believe, and a few of us have changed our ways since starting the challenge.

Do pop on here for encouragement. Several of us were very pleased that we continued past difficult days. :D

Hi Sheila - this sounds good and I'm tempted! I've noticed my hair is so dry now: I need to do something different.

Have looked on their websites and it looks as if Faith in Nature is chocolate scent only (not sure about having hair that smells of chocolate!) and Green People is mail order only. They both sound good though.

Which would you say was best? And is your new hair feeling less dry about these new shampoos, or do you think it was because you went shampoo-less for 10 months?

I work with someone whose sister has stopped washing her hair....and my colleagues comments are hysterical.

Apparently this persons hair now absolutely stinks and she is totally oblivious to it . In fact she tries to convert people with a missionary zeal into her ways.

Difficult.

I've mentioned this before, but my French grandmother didn't wash her hair, she cleaned it (and her scalp) with Eau de Cologne. Her hair was beautiful, snow white, long, worn in what she referred to as a chignon....and it didn't smell.

I think that is the very point that people miss Egluntine. Not using shampoo is not the same thing as not keeping your hair clean. The reports in the media seem to be of people who just stop cleaning their hair.

Instead of commercial shampoo, water will do a reasonable job especially if it's hot. A teaspoon of vinegar will cleanse and there are numerous other recipes.

Mine definitely does not stink

Mind you at work sometimes I have to wash it (in water only) several times a day :?

Joking aside I wash by choice once a week in hot water only giving the scalp a good massage and scrub and use an occasional dot of conditioner if it is feeling a little dry but that is it :?

Well over a year now and I am so pleased

It seems to suit my sort of wavy/curly/wiry hair though :?

Keep it up you will feel better in a few weeks I promise

A friend popped over for a drink this afternoon and as we sat out in the sun watching the chooks she commented on how lovely my hair was looking. Can you imagine how surprised she was when I told her it hadn't been washed with shampoo for well over a week? I don't think she believed me at first then took a great interest in the whole affair. I shall definately continue to wash in water with the occasional bicarb rescue.

That's always such a thrill isn't it? Well done. :D:D
