First chickens arriving on Thursday!

Recommended Posts

I only have one ex batt left now and she sleeps in the nest box of the (purple eglu) .

My other hybrids often sleep in the nest box of the (cube purple) I used to try to keep them out but gave up, I just poo pick in the morning, I occasionally get an egg laid before I can do this but most of the time it works well. I use aubroise in the nest box so I think that helps.

Loving seeing all the ppl who take on ex bats. I envy you all as not available up here. The joy of watching them suddenly find that there IS a life outside the cage and wow. Days of watching them revert to normal chicken behaviours must be just amazing.......bless you all just for that..... :)

The best thing about my ex-commercial girls was seeing there pale faces get brighter and the flaccid comb become erect and red and there immaculate feet get dirty, oh and the first dust bath was a joy to behold. When they all went to bed together...well really just about everything they do is ok by me. They are even enjoying the pools if water in the garden as it encourages worms and bugs...

Well I am lucky as I did work experience at this chicken farm with 100,000 hens and they said that I could have some. Mine are quite healthy because as these were my first ones they helped me get some ones with big red combs...except Funky who is my favourite! She has a tiny pink one but she is the most friendly and cuddleable! Hoping to get some of the ex cage ones when they go later this year! The eggs are mainly okay...had 4 good ones again today but yesterday we had 4 good ones and a shell less one on the nesting bars and one soft one with shell. So I assume it will be one of the ones who layed it again on the nesting bars. I am currently worming them and will use the mite powder on them when I get chance after they kind of trust me! And I find the best thing so far is mixed corn in the play ball from omlet they love it! They play football and race round the run! And when they stand in the eglu door singing I layed an egg song!

Yes they are well feathered. Billina and Funky have bald patches underneath them and most of them have a few neck feathers missing but yes very well feathered. The majority at the farm from their farm was quite bald but my girlys were the better feathered of the lot. No eggs layed anywhere this morning when I let them out so thats good :) I have mine on poultry spice and ACV and verm-ex and I have some mite stuff. Going to give them all a wash next weekend after they have all settled in then apply mite powder then leave them be after that!
