Mycoplasma - do symptoms ever disappear?

Recommended Posts

We had an outbreak of mycoplasma a couple of months ago, the vet said he thought it was myco and i'm pretty sure it was as we had bubbly eyes as well as sneezing.

They have all had tylan and are fine generally, but quite a few are still sneezing. I have had them on herban for two weeks and was going to continue for another two.

I know they will probably always be myco carriers (but they are pets so i cant face culling them) but should i be able to get rid of the sneezing or is it ok/normal for it to continue?

Has anyone had myco and got rid of the sneezing completely?

Thanks

Hello :D I have experienced myco twice in my little flock of pekin bantams.Yes, in answer to your question they should recover and be symptom free. Mine are all well at the moment and the last out break was last spring when I was doing intros with a new cockerel. (I'm affraid once they have it they will always carry it and in times of stress it can resurface :( ) Sadly, I lost him and another hen.....although I'm not convinced they had myco but 2 others definitely did!!! :? Mine have always had baytril and recovered well with TLC.

Maybe talk with your vet?

Hello, one of my girls had suspected myco a couple of months ago as she had bubbly eyes and was sneezing and not laying. They were all treated with Tylan and the bubbly eyes got better but they do all still sneeze from time to time, some days more than others. But because she started laying again and the eyes cleared up I'm just assuming its under control now. I'm not very experienced but just wanted to let you know what happened for me. From what I've read sneezing doesn't always have to be a cause for concern. Maybe try citricidal in their water for a week?

Hope somebody else comes along to put your mind at rest because I'm not sure if I have!

Hmm, i might ring the vet tommorrow and ask.

They have had tylan twice, so thats not working, i dont really want to use baytril cos the advice the vets have to give now is too never eat any of the eggs again.

But they mentioned denagard which i looked up and that has no egg withdrawal so that would be good.

But they have to order the whole bottle in specially, which is £70 :( , so i might give the Herban one last week then ask them to order it in.

I think i have spent nearly that much on little bottles of natural remedies, i should probably have bitten the bullet and got the denegard in the first place :?
