Minnie&Moose
Got home tonight to find that Medlar, our lovely Welsummer, was missing. We've searched the garden (hard to do in the dark) and unfortunately have found a pile of feathers on the wrong side of the electric fence I fear we've had a visit from a fox or the local badger. Unfortunately Medlar is/was a flier, and I stupidly hadn't got round to clipping her wing again after her moult this winter - I'm guessing she hopped over the fence for a pootle round the garden and then couldn't get herself back into the pen come bed time. So, feeling very guilty and cross with myself. Poor Medlar. Edited February 11, 2014 by Guest
jackian
I do hope she is OK. Don't forget to look under boxes etc., A friend of mine found one of hers under a bin . Jackie x
Mrs_B
Poor you I do hope Medlar comes back looking for her flock - maybe the fact she can fly was a bonus in terms of protecting herself against a predator over night? I haven't got round to clipping my girls' wings since their moult either! Good luck x
Minnie&Moose
Sadly there's no sign of Medlar this morning When I let the others out they immediately trundled round to the back of the cube to the point in the fence where there's a pile of her feathers. Mavis, top hen, spent quite a while inspecting the area and investigating the feathers - so, I don't know if she saw the event or not. Magda's looking rather miserable this morning - Medlar was her friend - they came from Wernlas together and have always stuck up for each other. Ain't Nobody Here
I'm so sorry to hear that . It doesn't sound hopeful .
Minnie&Moose
Thanks everyone for your kind words. Sadly, I think it's definite that Medlar is no more. She was a lovely girl, a great layer of beautiful dark brown eggs, and could run like a whippet if the mood took her.
