Will a WIR work on a slope ?

Recommended Posts

I've dismantled my WIR ready to move house but the place where I want to put it in my new garden is on a slight slope. It's quite a big run so if I tried to make it level I'd have to dig out quite a lot of earth at one side. Do you think it would work on slope? Will it be stable enough? I'd make the (paved) base flat but sloping if that makes sense.

The only other option I could think of would be to step the run panels up the slope but then I can't quite work out what the inside of the run would be like - sloping or stepped!

Any advice/experience would be much appreciated.

Thanks

If it's a slight slope I should think it would work - and you might not have the drainage problems some of us are experiencing at the moment! If it's more than slight then you may find the run isn't stable, though. Try it and see, is probably the best thing.

Hi. I have eglu classic on a slope and that is ok. Except the eggs roll out the nest box and all the wood chip ends up one side! I am building a wir and levelled the ground off by digging out the higher side and building up the lower bit. Because we are making a wooden frame we needed to hAve it all square. Put sand and paving down. If it's a slight slope and ground is smooth and regular you should be ok. But if very steep and or bumpy you will need to level off. If you start putting steps in it will compromise the safety of the run as skirt won't be flush to the ground.

Digging was the worst bit. So muddy. Christmas was wrong time to start project. :x

Thank you for the replies

In the end after digging it out and laying the slabs for a sloping run, contrary fool that I am, I decided I didn't quite like the idea of it being laid sloping so I started again and did the run in steps instead! It's not ideal as there's a big step down to get in to it and the inside is level on one side then slopes away but the run itself sits square which makes me happier.

Hi

Your run looks really nice. I am very envious. Good size and like the different levels and nice dry floor.

Mine is still not finished but is getting there - Just sorting out the flooring and a bit of paint (when/if it stops raining!). I would like to have a different level but bit worried as only have 2 Orpingtons and they are quite heavy and not good at jumping up or down. Maybe just put in a couple of logs.

Am exhausted! Lovely weather today. I spent it painting the wendy house. It took 4 coats of cuprinol on the outside and I managed one acrylic undercoat inside. Cant believe it took all day! Still have another coat to do inside of Dulux weathershield satinwood. It is looking good already and I've decided to take tomorrow off work to get the painting finished while the weather is fine. The chickens had a great day too keeping an eye on the work. I hope they appreciate it!
