Me and my boyfriend are looking at making a late booking for somewhere hot and sunny in a couple of weeks time for a weeks holiday. So far the only place coming up as the cheapest and the hottest is Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt. Has anybody been here before? Do you reckon it's going to be safe!? Many thanks! Not sure of you need a visa for Sharm We had to get visas when we went on Nile cruises but you may be OK if you don't leave Sharm resort....poss worth checking. We didn't visit Sharm but stayed in Luxor and Cairo either end of the cruises and loved every minute. The Egyptians are wonderful people and very friendly tho it was something of a culture shock! Unfortunately their hotel room was broken into yesterday and their phones and few other electrical items were stolen I am sure this can happen anywhere, just something to bear in mind when you are there. craftyhunnypie Posted March 4, 2014 Share Posted March 4, 2014 Hi - we've been Sharm (Naama Bay) twice. Stayed at Ghazala Gardens. Loved it. But I don't think it's a beach holiday. Too much coral, private sections of beach per hotel, plus dangers of sharks when we were there. So we stayed round the pool a lot. The 2nd time we went was when all the trouble over their president was taking place & he fled to Sharm. The English were the only ones still holidaying there & the first week it was really quiet like a ghost town & there was a bit of a curfew. However there were bargains to be had in the restauraunts & shops. We felt safe enough. The 2nd week other countries started coming again & it came alive over night! If you go, I'd stick to your resort. I wouldn't go & visit the pyramids, Cairo etc etc. Just stay in your resort. Beware the perfume shops. I mean perfume oils. They would charge you £100 + for a tiny decorative glass bottle of it. The locals will make out they have seen you before..."you come look my shop, I give you present". Don't fall for it! I refused to go in any shops with a shelf of perfume oils at the back. Just be very street wise & wary! Having said that it is fab & we loved it. Don't buy a visa & don't buy one at the airport. Do not queue with the rest of the tourists once you land at the airport. Just go straight to passport control & say you are staying in Sinai & not going out of Sinai. The Visa trick is a con! I'm not sure I'd go at the minute to be honest. There seems to be so much unrest, that has been going on since we were there nearly 3 years ago. It's still not settled!
