Recommendations please, for cheap hand blender and whisk

Recommended Posts

I actually own a hand blender/whisk, but it's in storage and I don't rate highly my chances of ever finding it, so I'm in need of another. I really want to try different eggy recipes, making creme brulee with yolks and meringues with the whites - nothing healthy  . There's no way I'm going to try whisking up meringues with an elderly rotary whisk

Much as I would love a Bamix, I'm really looking for something that costs about 1/10th of their price and would welcome all recommendations (or advice to avoid anything in particular). It doesn't need to look good, just do the job.

Many thanks in advance :D

I have one :D I've had it about 10 years, cost me about £10 in a supermarket and its absolutely fine. It doesn't get used that often, mostly egg white whisking and cake making - I treated myself to a step up from doing it all by hand  I use a cheap stick blender (Braun) for soups and purees ....and last week for a fussy middle aged vegetarian who doesn't much like vegetables so they have to be disguised into baby food consistency

Bought the Kenwood one and it works a treat :D

The meringues came out a bit gooey, but that was 'cos the oven wasn't warm enough. The creme brulee was yummy. I need to work on the melted sugar top, as that didn't crystalise too well - tasted good though.

Made banana and blueberry muffins at the weekend and they were great. Barely had time to cool off before we were scoffing them  !

I gave up buying expensive hand whisks when my second Dualit stopped working. Had a huge row with them when the first one stripped it's gears after 13 months. We then bought a cheapy value one from Morrisons for £6, that was 18 months ago and it is still going strong after loads of cakes and being used all winter for mashed potatoes. I will stick to cheap ones in future.

We had a Kenwood one for about 20 years before that though. :D I think that they make them with plastic gears these days and they get wrecked by icing sugar gumming them up.
