Chickabee

Help with breed please ?

Recommended Posts

I would say India Game or Shamo. That's certainly a fighting breed, so I hope your friend hasn't got any other cockerels Chickabee.

It could have escaped locally or been stolen anywhere in the Country and escaped in transit. Cock fighting is commonplace in England, which is very disturbing. I would say to the same extent as it was when it was legal and every town had a 'Cock Pit'. A bantam breeder I met at a show had 20 cockerels stolen the previous night. They are 'fed' to the fighting birds to boost their confidence.

Sorry if this upsets anyone.

Looks like a young cockerel to me Chickabee. The combs and wattles are bred to be small so presenting the least target area for the opposing fighting cock. At shows I've been to they are kept in a separate area with the cages spaced apart.

He could have been dumped there by someone, as we have had several dumped on us, but I don't think that very likely.

I read that Shamo hens are so aggressive they have to be kept individually as well, otherwise the top hen kills all the others. Worth having a close look to see if there are spurs growing.

Its a cockerel

If your friend doesn't want it I would suggest contacting Julia at the Asian Hardfeather Club, She is an excellent source of information and may possibly be able to find an enthusiast in your area that may take the bird

I wouldn't suggest trying to rehome it publically as these attract undesirables that you may not want around your place
