Newchick76
Hi folks. Bit concerned about my mrs. Pepperpot... Over the last couple of days she has become very quiet and still and fell over her own feet when attempting to run for mealworms, which she wasn't all that interested in. She has puffed up her feathers and sits hunched and very low up with her bottom pointing to the floor. When she walks, it's more of a waddle. The other chicken seems fine. She seems as though she is eating but does feel skinny under her feathers. She had sat in her own mess yesterday and we had to wash her- the smell was awful and the faeces slightly green. I'm so worried about her... Any advice would be appreciated so much xxxx
Grandmashazzie
Ave you read up on peritonitis, that would be my first though with waddle?
AlisonH
I agree, I'm afraid. The waddle and position sounds like it.
Beantree
There is an internal infection caused by something there Newchick76. Antibiotics may clear it, but it could be peritonitis and may therefore reoccur.
Newchick76
Well, sadly we lost our girl yesterday. Took her to the vets on monday and she had to be put to sleep yesterday after going downhill. Probably peritonitis. She was unable to walk and very swollen around her abdomen. The single reamaining chook looks so lost. I never thought chickens could be so sensitive, but she didn't leave her side. Very touching! Sniff. Anyway, onwards,- so off to select a new friend for our ranger. Won't be deterred and still planning to expand our flock when we get a cube! so exciting! Thank you all who responded. Very sad to say goodbye... Never thought I'd cry over a chicken! Newchick76
Well, we have a new Bluebelle hybrid called, er... Bluebell! Our original girl is giving her a bit of a runaround and she's already looking like a bit of a houdini! Our ginger seems to be showing her who's boss by charging at her- will this settle? I've never had to make a new introduction before so we just got one- but hoping to get two more when we get the cube in a couple of months. Any thoughts? Grandmashazzie
Aw sad news.I just got bluebelle on Tues, wow they are flighty.I followed the advice on here about intros and today is the first they have been beak to beak.Apart from top hen flying at newbies to show how's boss they seem to be coping. But maybe advice is different if you're doing one on one.
