Dinner party disasters.

Recommended Posts

Did a lot of these in the 80's when young , free and single. Dont do many now despite the fact boys are older. Did Sunday dinners for other families- usually fed my and their kids first and then we had adult meal after whilst kids played.

Yesterday my friend and OH came round. Day started badly as couldnt find vine leaves for dolmades but OH managed to get ready made ones for me. So that was the starter - Meze taken care of. I made a cheesecake with collapsed when I got it out of the tin - binned that and made mini ones instead. Dropped biscuits all over the floor.

But it all went ok - no got food poisoning and despite the starter being mostly not made by me hummus, tzasiki, grilled haloumi, tara, stuffed chillis etc- the main moussaka and Cypriot salad, and dessert Choc cheesecake and Choc fondants and strawberries and cream were yummy.

My foods not adventourous - tends to be peasant food - wholesome and filling and at present low fat due to trying to maintain wt loss.

Just wondered if anyone else had any disasters to report.

Oh dear! Glad all was good in the end though. At least they are friends, and will forgive you :D

My worst disaster was getting a roasted joint of beef out of the oven. The table was on the kitchen at that time so everyone was looking as the beef slowly slid off the tray and onto the floor  Thankfully, I had just washed the floor that morning so it was ok to pick it up and carve as it had never happened

Wasn't so much a dinner party but a new years party with about 15 people. Had prepared lots of nibbly things that just needed popping in the oven every so often, just as the last guest arrived at 8ish we had a power cut! Dug out a little camping stove from the garage and managed to churn out most of the food, not quite as intended but I pulled it off. In some ways it made the party

Still makes me laugh when I remember my childhood cat Sooty helping herself to the "resting" roast one Sunday

It had been put out of the way on the top of the eye-level grill, but Sooty was an agile girl. We heard a loud purring and looked round to see her sat next to the roast (which was nearly as big as she was) chomping away for all she was worth. Even though it was hot, she'd made quite a dent in it by the time we shoved her off.

We still ate what was left and our guests never knew ... :silenced::shameonu::lol:

We have 3 cats so they were banned till all food was safely locked away :D Our friends love cats so we let them in to say hallo while we had coffee..

Another friend left the roast in the kitchen and asked if anyone wanted more meat. She found her greyhound finishing it off.
