WOW Seen Peregrin Falcon

Recommended Posts

TWICE - in as many days !!!

Well, I think it was a Peregrin Falcon.

Two days ago one landed in the garden next to the office where I work. It had caught a small dove/pidgeon which it plucked and ate, whilst fending off a hungry magpie that kept trying to sneak in and steal it.

That was amazing enough, but last night at home one landed in my garden, again with a small bird in its feet, but it didn't stay long and took off again taking his supper with him. I watched him and the chooks and the ladies were playing statues until he took off and then they ran around the run having a sqwauk.

I don't think it was the same bird as the one at work had feathery legs with yellow feet, but the one at home had yellow legs and feet.

They were the most beautiful and majestic looking birds and I feel honoured to have seen two in just a few days.

I have a peregrin falcon in my garden. It eats my ringdoves (ie ithe ones in my garden) and leaves piles of feathers in the drive. It also leaves orphened baby birds.

But theres no denying they are truly beautiful, especially in flight.

And very large! We also have sparrowhawks, but they are less... Pretty...

I went to the New Forest on the bank holiday weekend and they had their annual fete (one we went to as kids) and someone was wandering round with a Golden Eagle. It was HUGE. The guy made it flaps it's wings and I recokon the wing span must have been at least 5ft. It was a lovely looking bird and made the most incrediable noises.

Worcester Cathedral has a pair of nesting Pereguin Falcons. They have celebrity status at the moment since the RSPB leaked the story to the local press.

The RSPB have set up a veiwing station and stall in the Cathedral grounds provide binoculars & telescopes for the general public every day of the week.

Went and had a look last Sunday (2/9/07) - ...Ace
